Army times of Isaac John Wood

Royal Engineers

John transferred to the Royal Engineers in April 1942. After training with 6th Training Battalion Royal Engineers at Elgin, Scotland, he served in 158th Railway Construction Company until the end of the war. From August 1944 they were posted to North West Europe, working with the Royal Canadian Engineers in repairing railway lines and bridges.

158th Company was disbanded in November 1945, and John transferred to 956th Railway Survey Company for a few months until January 1946.  These months proved to be the most harrowing of times as 956th Company was involved in clearing the Slave Labour Camps at Essen.
