·      Paris is liberated in August 1944, Antwerp follows in September 1944

·      Dec 1944: The British home guard is stood down

On August 16th 1944, 158th Company receive orders to depart for France as part of the British Liberation Army.
They set sail from Gosport and dock at Arromanches on August 28th.
Within days they start work reconstructing the railway line between Bernay and Rouen.
