·      British Troops forced to evacuate from Dunkirk

·      France surrenders in June and Germany begins air assault over Britain.

·      Germany's defeat in the Battle of Britain forces Hitler to postpone plans to invade
A German invasion of the British mainland is expected and 384th Battery is moved to East Sussex.


They build and man road-blocks and take part in Anti Aircraft fire.
The Battery trains   to use  alternative artillery pieces as general army shortages follow the evacuation from Dunkirk.
On leave in October, John marries Florence Denley.
